RIDGELAND — Ridgeland police say a pharmacy technician was stabbed with a syringe at a Ridgeland Walmart on Thursday.
Police Lt. John Neal tells WAPT-TV in Jackson that Joshua Bobo is facing charges of armed robbery, because he allegedly used the hypodermic needle as a weapon, aggravated assault and unarmed carjacking.
Neal said the man walked into the store about 7:30 p.m. and bought a package of syringes. He then tried to get into the secure area of the pharmacy.
“We believe his motive was to probably steal some controlled substances,” said Neal. “The pharmacy tech that was there at the counter that had checked him out attempted to stop him, and Mr. Bobo grabbed one of those syringes and stuck it in her hand.”
Police said Bobo didn’t get any drugs, but he did get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide.
“He drank about half of that bottle of peroxide,” Neal said.
Neal said Bobo left the pharmacy and tried to steal a car in the parking lot but police had arrived and arrested him.
Bobo was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment and was later released to police. He is being held in the Madison County jail.
The pharmacy technician was taken to a local hospital, treated for a minor injury and released, police said. Neal said the syringe used in the assault was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for testing.
