At the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) National Alumni Leadership Council, recently held at the Cook Convention Center, Memphis, Tenn., Danny Chandler was named Outstanding Alumnus for 2014.
Each Nominee was recognized at the Legacy Award Gala for their contribution to their alma mater and to higher education. Each college or university who is a member of the UNCF gets to recommend one alumnus to represent its institution. Danny Chandler represented Oakwood University, Huntsville, Alabama.
He is a 1984 graduate of Oakwood University, founder of Mississippi Friends of Oakwood Committed to University Support (Mississippi FOCUS) and the Chandler Foundation. Mississippi FOCUS is a $50,000 scholarship program, which assists young men and women from Mississippi who want to attend Oakwood University. The scholarship fund, which has now reached more than $100,000, makes annual awards in August based on financial need.
Chandler is a native of Columbus, and a 1980 graduate of S.D. Lee High School.
