Columbus native honored for contributions to media

A Columbus native, Robert Ivy, has been named, by American Business Media, as the 2009 Crain Award Winner. 

 


The vice president and editorial director of McGraw-Hill Construction Media, Ivy also serves as the editor-in-chief of Architectural Record. Ivy is based in New York City. For a period in the 1980s Ivy had an architecture practice in the building now occupied by attorney David Dunn on Fifth Street South. 

 


"Bob Ivy has contributed to the field of business media in a substantial way," said James H. McGraw IV, vice president and group publisher of McGraw-Hill. "He exemplifies editorial excellence and protects the integrity of our media relentlessly. He has remarkable vision and insight and is highly innovative.  

 


"In addition, Bob has made a difference in the industry we serve, where he is widely known and admired," McGraw continued. "He cares about his co-workers and works hard to attract and develop young people for careers in business media. In short, Bob has had an extraordinary career and is highly deserving of this prestigious award." 

 


"Ivy applies his deep understanding of architecture and construction and superb communication skills to oversee the editorial quality of 16 print and 17 digital publications," reported American Business Media E-News on Jan. 27. "With insight, judgment and advocacy, he serves as a spokesperson for the profession and the industry, in print and in person, on the most important building-design issues of our time." 

 


Ivy will be honored during the 55th Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards Luncheon, March 19, at the Union League Club in New York City. 

 


Under Ivy''s leadership, Architectural Record received the National Magazine Award for General Excellence, in 2003. 

 


Named for G.D. Crain Jr., the founder of Crain Communications Inc., the American Business Media Crain Award annually honors editorial excellence in business media. 

 


Ivy is the 41st recipient of the award.
