The Starkville Police Department is still searching for two men involved in a weekend shooting on North Montgomery Street, but three of the suspects' family members were arrested this week for withholding information about their whereabouts.
James W. Cannon, 52, is the father of suspects Roderick D. Franklin, aka "Bam Bam," and Kenyon D. Cannon, aka "Smoke," and was charged Wednesday by Starkville police with obstruction of justice.
Wallace C. Cannon, 30, who is the full brother of Kenyon Cannon and the half-brother of Franklin, also was charged with obstruction of justice.
"Basically, during the investigation, they had knowledge of the location where the suspects were and didn't give us that information, which aided in us not apprehending them," SPD Sgt. Chadd Garnett said.
Shanquinna Renee Hollingshed, 25, is Franklin's wife and was charged with possession of marijuana less than 30 grams after police ran a search warrant on her home while looking for Franklin, Garnett said.
Starkville police have been searching for the suspects since the Friday night incident, which left the 30-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and head. Police even received a tip the suspects were holed up at a relative's home in Winston County. A search Saturday of the relative's home with Winston County Sheriff's Department deputies, however, revealed the suspects had been there, but left recently.
"We did confirm that they were there," Garnett said.
Garnett hopes the suspects will surrender to police now that relatives have been arrested for their involvement.
Both Franklin, 30, of 200 Catherine St., No. 13B, and Kenyon Cannon, 29, of 141 Pilkington Park, are being sought on aggravated assault warrants. Police consider both armed and dangerous.
Franklin is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and 170 pounds, while Cannon is 6 feet 1 inch and 180 pounds.
Starkville police were dispatched at approximately 11:10 p.m. Friday to the 800 block of North Montgomery Street to speak to an assault victim. The victim had been shot multiple times in the head and neck while inside his home at 819 North Montgomery St., police said.
Police have not identified the victim, but did confirm he left his home after the shooting, knocked on several neighbors' doors and tried to flag down passing vehicles for help before someone called 911.
When authorities arrived, the victim was transported to Oktibbeha County Hospital, then to a hospital in Jackson for further treatment.

14/88 | 11/8/2009 6:22:00 AMmark as inappropriate I think they should face the same charges as the shooters....this is rediculous.
