A Starkville man faces numerous charges after allegedly fleeing from a traffic stop and assaulting an officer Sunday.
Shawn Dewayne Boyd, 23, of 1212 Biggs Road, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, careless driving, driving with a suspended or revoked license, no or improper tag, no insurance, failure to stop a motor vehicle when signaled and disorderly conduct for failing to comply with an officer’s commands.
A Starkville Police Department release states Boyd was pulled over while driving on Lynn Lane Extension about 1:59 a.m. Sunday.
SPD Chief Frank Nichols said Boyd subsequently fled the traffic stop to a nearby wooded area and allegedly injured an officer during the escape. The officer was not seriously hurt, Nichols said.
Boyd’s initial appearance in Starkville Municipal Court before Judge Rodney Favor is set for Monday.
In the release, SPD thanked Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with the incident.
