An overnight robbery spree Wednesday has landed a Columbus man in custody facing armed robbery charges, the Columbus Police Department announced Thursday.
The suspect, identified as Marshal Porter, 36, of 104 McHall Drive, is alleged to have robbed the Riverhill Chevron station on Main Street at approximately 9:53 p.m. Wednesday. A witness said Porter waited until the clerk opened the cash register, then grabbed an unspecified amount of cash before fleeing the scene.
The description of the suspect from that robbery matched the description of a man who entered the Sprint Mart on Highway 69 shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday and demanded money. According to a witness, the man indicated he possessed a weapon, but never pointed it at the clerk.
Police identified Porter as the suspect and made the arrest at his residence around noon Thursday.
He is currently in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond.
