TUPELO — A Tupelo man who pleaded guilty to drunken driving resulting in the death of a Tupelo woman on her morning walk outside of Lee County has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Prosecutors say 28-year-old John Shannon Gillentine of Oxford was at the wheel of a car that struck and killed 64-year-old Elizabeth Montgomery of Tupelo in August of 2013. Another person was walking with Montgomery but was not injured.
Lee County Circuit Judge Jim Pounds on Wednesday sentenced Gillentine him to 20 years, with 10 years suspended. Gillentine will serve the remaining 10 years and have 5 years of post-release supervision when he is released.
Gillentine pleaded guilty to the charges last week.
