CLARKSLDALE — The Delta Blues Museum Arts and Education Program in Clarksdale is among 12 winners of the 2014 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award.
First Lady Michelle Obama will honor the winners today at the White House. One international program will also be recognized with the International Spotlight Award for a youth-based program in India.
The program recognizes community-based organizations that develop learning and life skills in young people by engaging them in the arts or humanities.
The ceremony will include a performance by the Delta Blues Museum Arts and Education Program Band of Clarksdale, which features five performers ranging in age from 8 to 15 years.
The Delta Blues Museum was established in 1979 by the Carnegie Public Library board of trustees. It became a stand-alone museum in 1999.
