There is a new barber shop in Columbus.
Blendz by Dream Team opened last month at 1909 Highway 45 North B, right in front of Walmart. Manager Tyrone Curry said the business offers “all the latest cuts and styles for the entire family.” They cater to men and women and have a female stylist on staff. Blendz by Dream Team is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday. Walk-ins and appointments are welcome. The number is 662-243-1513.
The business employs six people.
Over in Starkville, Harveys will be closed through the first half of January as the restaurant undergoes some renovations.
The 32-year-old business plans on leveling all areas inside the eatery in an effort to remove stairs and increase assessibility. Some banquet areas will be added and the overall atmosphere will be “refreshed” and updated, according to Shannon Barkley, the director of sales and marketing with Eat With Us Group.
Harveys moved into its current location on Highway 12 in 1987. John Bean, the president and CEO of Eat With Us Group, said it’s time to update the restaurant and invest in the next decade-plus.
The restaurant will be closed Jan. 1 through Jan. 21 while the renovations are taking place. It will reopen on Jan 22.
In the weeks leading up to the renovations, Harvey’s patrons will receive incentive cards to be redeemed at the reopening, Barkley said.
Back in Columbus, it looks like a Renasant Bank could be opening a Sixth Street North location.
The Tupelo-based bank published a legal notice in this newspaper last week stating that it applied to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to establish a bank at 1865 Sixth Street North — that’s across from Logan’s Roadhouse along 18th Avenue North.
Renasant Bank’s beginnings date back to 1904, when it opened in an old Lee County bakery. The bank has 120-plus locations in various states today.
Moving on.
Rhonda Shoemaker, who owned the Sno Biz for a decade, says she hopes to find a new Columbus location for the popular snow cone stand.
The Sno Biz near the intersection of 18th Avenue North and Old Aberdeen Road — which was open every year from early March through late September — was bulldozed recently to make room for an Ulta Beauty and Mattress Firm that will be housed in a 13,000 square foot building at the spot.
Shoemaker, who is spending the winter in Texas, told The Dispatch on Tuesday that she enjoyed owning a Golden Triangle small business and hopes to continue her presence. She needs a reasonably-priced small piece of open land — she can build another stand, she said.
Lastly, The Dispatch will not publish a newspaper on New Year’s Day. Because of that, our weekly business page — including this column — will appear in next Wednesday’s edition.
