Columbus Municipal Court Judge Marc Amos denied bond Friday for a local man accused of murder.
Billy Lee Kennedy, 30, of 2602 Puckett Parkway in Columbus, is being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Facility after he allegedly shot and killed 32-year-old Timothy Barker, also of Columbus, following an altercation just after midnight Thursday at Club Heidi Ho on 22nd Street South.
In a press release following Kennedy’s arraignment on Friday, Columbus police said Kennedy was working as a disc jockey at the club when he and Barker reportedly engaged in a physical altercation inside the club. The fight led to gunfire. Police say the club was open for business and “numerous patrons” were inside when the alleged shooting occurred.
Officers responded to the scene at about 12:24 a.m. and found Barker lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he later died.
Police arrested Kennedy at the club.
Kennedy was out on bond at the time of the reported shooting for a November 2013 aggravated assault charge where he allegedly fired a weapon into an occupied vehicle, according to authorities.
Police are still investigating Thursday’s incident.
