JACKSON — A Mississippi congressman who had brain surgery last year is hospitalized for treatment of a bleeding problem in his left leg.
Republican Rep. Alan Nunnelee is in North Mississippi Medical Center in his hometown of Tupelo for treatment of a hematoma. Nunnelee’s spokeswoman, Elizabeth Parks, says doctors have not said when he might be discharged.
Nunnelee’s office announced his hospitalization Monday. Parks says he was admitted Dec. 28 and doctors are working to ease Nunnelee’s pain and to stop the bleeding.
Nunnelee, who’s 56, underwent chemotherapy and radiation after surgeons removed a brain tumor in June. He also has been through therapy to recover from a stroke he had during surgery.
He was re-elected in November but will not be in Washington when Congress begins its new term today.
