Jury selection began this morning at the Lowndes County Courthouse in the trial of Brian Holliman.
Holliman, 28, is accused of the Oct. 25, 2008, murder of his wife Laura, 24, at their home at 770 Wolfe Road in Caledonia. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her death, which was the result of a gunshot wound, was originally investigated as a suicide. However, investigators with the Lowndes County Sheriff''s Department became suspicious of the death.
According to officials, Holliman admitted to the shooting upon further questioning. But during a hearing for a change of venue in the trial sought by the defense last month, Holliman''s attorney, Steve Farese, said it was "not true" that Holliman confessed.
Farese argued in the change of venue hearing that Holliman cannot receive a fair trial in Lowndes County due to pervasive public opinion regarding his guilt or innocence. He said that public sentiment is a direct result of media attention given to the case, some of which he claims is misleading.
Lowndes County Circuit Court Judge Lee Howard ruled after that hearing that jury selection should continue in the case in Lowndes County.
Holliman has been free on bond since a few days after his wife''s death.
According to court records, Holliman''s trial has been continued several times, most recently in August.

I hope he gets what he deserves and more, namely the death penalty after he is convicted!

The death penalty is to easy, a needle and he falls asleep. He needs life in maximum security where his life will be hell for the next70 years. Let the prisoners work their magic on him, he will wish he was dead!

I can see he will get a FAIR trial in Columbus... No one was there but everyone says he is guilty.. Let the chosen people say if he is guilty and not a bunch of outsiders judging. But then again, this is Columbus and NOTHING is fair here. What really bothers me is a lot of Christians are doing the judging.
WHAT!! commented at 11/30/2009 10:24:00 PM:
What does religion have to do with a man who killed his wife at point blank range with a shot gun? You know what really bothers me is people like you who have nothing better to do than drag religion into problems that have nothing to do with it in hopes to make your heathenistic ways seem good. I mean really christians or not this man will be held accountable and he did confess to it remember! It is only fitting that later when he thinks his trial might be moved to another county that he supposedly never said it.

lethal injection...nooo, lets try the good old boy way of the Electric chair and fry em! It worked many years and did just fine.

Guys...wow, the crime has been done, not one of you has mentioned that 3 little children have lost both of their parents...whoever, mom or dad, picked the gun up and put it in their hands, will pay for this crime, not Lowndes County...let Brian and with God's grace decide his fate, because anger in a marriage to a point a gun is involved, everybody has at least thought it, and it happened to Brian!
sallymae commented at 12/1/2009 10:14:00 AM:
jusme are you kidding me? Everybody has at least thought it.. a loaded gun in a marriage. Honey if you have had that thought then you don't need to be in that marriage...GET OUT NOW!
I can assure you MOST people NEVER have that thought! I can't believe you said that!

This is really a domestic violence case--a woman trying to leave an abusive partner who gets killed in the process. (Remember Nicole and OJ?)
Getting shot in the face with a shotgun is pretty extreme thing to do to try and control your partner one last time and keep her from leaving. Hopefully the DA can convince a jury he needs to pay for his horrific crime and not get off like OJ did.

He is the worse kind of coward. He horribly and brutally stole a beautiful young woman from everyone who loved her, especially her little children. Then he tried to cover it up by telling one of the cruelest lies ever to her family that SHE took her own life.He will pay for his crime here on earth and then he will answer for it for all of eternity.

IT'S SAD CAUSE EVEN HIS OWN PARENTS WERE TRYING TO HELP HIM COVER IT UP. I FEEL SO SADDENED THAT THOSE CHILDREN WILL KNOW THE TRUTH ONE DAY AND THAT THEIR MOTHER WILL NEVER SEE THEM SUCCEED IN ANYTHING HERE ON EARTH BUT MAYBE IN SPIRIT.

SWHIT- Yeah its sad that his parents helpped him cover it all up along with all the other abusive crimes he has commited through his whole life. Its all been sweep under the rug, and thats why all these folks that thank that the Hollimans are saints thank that way! But ya know kids learn from what they see, so whos the abusive one in his family? Sarah? Douglas? No one knows what happens behind closed doors and any abusive man would tell his victom not to tell anyone or they are going to get it again. Of course the women is going to be scared sh*tless and keep her mouth shut! Back to the parents helping cover it up, they also have been brain washing the 3 year old precious lil girl. thats SICK!! That child is going to be the most messed up lil girl ever!! Her daddy cold blooded shot her mommy in the face and killed her then lied and covered it up saying it was her mommys fault. and then brain washed her about cops being bad and no telling what else! and all these selfish low lifes that are taken Brians side and thinking Brian is getting mistreated, you should be thinking of that blue eyed beauty and her abuse. Get a life and think of these kids they are the ones who need the peace now!!!!

Brian will get what he deserves, but nothing makes me madder than hearing people talk bad about his parents. Where are Laura Lee's parents? Oh yeah, her mom is in jail and her dad never really had anything to do with the kids. He wouldn't even take care of Katie after he found out she wasn't his. I guess we have all found out why you shouldn't sleep around on your husband when he is an abusive psychopath. All of the people that knew he was abusive must feel awful for not helping her get out. Her blood is on your hands too.
