There is a new laundromat in Starkville.
Spin City opened Dec. 15.
Located at 421 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. East, it is open 24/7. It offers 41 units — 21 dryers, 20 washers — inside of a 3,000 square foot building and some of the washers can accommodate up to 80-pound loads, according to Jason Perry, the owner. There is coffee available, televisions and free Wi-Fi for customers.
The laundromat, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday, also offers full-service washing, drying, ironing and folding. Perry said they specialize in stains. Customers’ clothes are returned on hangers.
Spin City has two full-time employees and one part-time employee. The phone number is 662-268-8071.
Moving to Columbus.
Earlier this month JCPenney announced that it plans to close approximately 40 U.S. stores this year — that’s a little less than 4 percent of the retailer’s total store base.
We reached out to the retailer’s corporate office in Texas to see if the JCPenney at Leigh Mall is on the chopping block.
Carter English, a spokesperson, responded to our inquiry. He said: “JCPenney does not have any plans to close the Columbus location or any other stores in Mississippi this year.”
In fact, of the 40 locations that are slated to be shuttered, the closest one to Columbus is in Georgia. The closings will take place on or about April 4, according to English.
The Columbus JCPenney employs 52 people.
Lastly, Real Living Hearts & Home Realty opened for business on Jan. 1.
The new realty firm is located at 3600 Bluecutt Road, Suite 1. Angela Laster is the owner. There are four Realtors working with the business. They are licensed to sell in all of Mississippi and Alabama, but they target the Golden Triangle, according to Laster. They sell residential and commercial properties.
Real Living is a franchise owned by Warren Buffett, the Nebraska-native, business magnate and philanthropist widely regarded as the most successful investor of the 20th century.
