There is a new home furnishings store in Columbus.
Buddy’s Home Furnishings opened Monday. You may have gotten a flyer in the mail about it: Roughly 5,000 have been sent out through the last two weeks regarding the new business at 1831 Hwy. 45 N., right beside Kroger.
Michael Warren, the store’s executive director of operations, said they have couches, comfy chairs, sofas, tables, desks, TVs, washers, dryers and more. They offer leasing with weekly, bi-weekly or monthly payment options, and Warren said they can work with any budget.
The merchandise is spread across 3,800 square feet inside the store. The business has four employees.
Buddy’s Home Furnishings began in 1961 in Tampa, Florida. Today, it is the largest independent “rent to own” dealer in the U.S., with 103 locations nationwide, according to its corporate website.
The Columbus location is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed Sunday.
The phone number is 662-570-1147.
Moving on.
A Columbus man has plans to open a new spa by April.
Terrance Bonner, a licensed massage therapist, says The Glam Station & Spa will be located at 717 Fifth St. North. Some light renovations are being done on the building currently.
What the business will offer is message therapy and skin care, as well as a brow bar and make-up bar. Each client will receive services and also an education on the type of procedure they want done, Bonner said.
The business will employ four people. A grand opening will be scheduled at a later date.
Over in Starkville, Belizean Breezee opened last Thursday.
The clothing and accessories store is located at 330 Hwy. 12, right across from C Spire Wireless.
Tracy Latham, the owner, a Belize native who has lived in Starkville for almost a decade, said they offer a wide variety of women’s clothes, as well as purses and shoes. They have a clothing line specifically for young girls (currently being stocked with springtime clothing) and plus-sizes, up to 6X. They also make bulk sales to other boutiques around the area.
The store currently has two employees. That number will rise to six after March 1. Belizean Breezee is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday.
Lastly, some meat news.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that there will be 23.901 billion pounds of beef produced this year. That would mark a 22-year low. The reason: Cattle ranchers have not quite recovered from a 2012 drought, according to Bloomberg News. Meanwhile, pork production will climb to 23.908 billion pounds this year.
Chicken, though, will outpace both pork and beef, with 39.206 billion pounds expected to be produced this year, according to the USDA.
