A Columbus convenience store was robbed this morning.
Capt. Brent Swan said the reported robbery occurred at about 4 a.m. at the Sprint Mart at 2021 Military Road. Swan would not release further details on the incident — including a suspect description, whether a weapon was used or whether anyone was injured — by press time. He also did not release if police had arrested anyone.
Sprint Mart manager Ashley Waddell told The Dispatch this morning two cashiers were working at the time. One was kidnapped briefly by the suspect, Waddell said. The cashier has since been freed and is at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, along with the other cashier. Waddell said neither were injured, but both are being checked up on.
Not much is known about the suspect based on store cameras, according to Waddell.
“On camera I can’t tell if he was armed, but based on the way the cashiers were behaving, he had to have been,” she said.
Sprint Mart is open 24/7.
