Fearing forecasts for freezing rain, school districts across the Golden Triangle dismissed students early today and canceled evening events.
Columbus Municipal School District dismissed students early today. Elementary students were released at 12:45 p.m.; middle and high school students were released at 1:30 p.m. Tonight’s basketball game has been canceled.
Lowndes County School District sent all students home at 1:15 this afternoon. Central office staff said that all athletic events and tonights PTO/ informational bond issue meeting for tonight at New Hope Middle School have been canceled.
The Mississippi University for Women closed campus at 2 p.m.
Across the Golden Triangle, Starkville Public Schools are also shutting down early. Elementary schools are releasing students at 2 p.m.; middle and high schools will dismiss students at 2:35 p.m. All evening events have been canceled.
West Point public schools dismissed all students at 1:30 this afternoon. Evening events at West Point schools have been canceled.
