With snow in the forecast, Golden Triangle school districts are surrendering to mother nature before the first flake falls.
The following districts have announced that their schools are closed Wednesday: Lowndes County, Columbus Municipal, Starkville and Oktibehha County.
The National Weather Service is predicting that the Golden Triangle will receive two to four inches of snow Wednesday.
The Dispatch was unable to reach officials with the West Point School District, as that district was closed this afternoon.
The city of Columbus and Lowndes County offices will both be closed Wednesday.
Mississippi University for Women announced this afternoon that all offices and day and evening classes are cancelled Wednesday. Events scheduled for Wednesday are also canceled. The cafeteria will remain open for on-campus students.
Mississippi State University announced this afternoon that its Starkville and Meridian campuses will also be closed Wednesday. MSU officials said they will make an announcement Thursday at 6 a.m. about the university’s status for Thursday.
East Mississippi Community College has announced that all of its campuses, including the Golden Triangle campus, are closed Wednesday.
Columbus Air Force Base announced this afternoon that all non-emergency services will be closed Wednesday. Base officials said to expect normal reporting Thursday.
