A Columbus man is behind bars after he allegedly robbed a 64-year-old woman outside of a local business.
Columbus police arrested Karlo Levinee Lane, 31, of 405 Deer Brook, on Sunday on suspicion of robbery. Municipal Court Judge Nicole Clinkscales set his bond at $250,000.
A police department press release said the female victim reported the robbery at about 5:34 p.m. on March 2 outside of a business in the 2000 block of Highway 45 North. She told police the suspect approached her and demanded money and her purse.
The suspect then forced the purse from the victim’s hands, hitting her in the face until she let it go. The press release said the suspect left the scene in a green vehicle, and the victim was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle for her injuries. Police said the suspect did not use a weapon in the robbery.
At 5:55 p.m. March 2, a Third Avenue North resident reported a green Nissan Altima stolen from his home. Investigators suspected the car was used in the previous robbery. Police identified Lane as the suspect in both incidents and arrested him on Sunday.
Lane is being held in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Facility.
