BYHALIA — Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says deputies have arrested a landlord who is accused of setting two of his tenants on fire.
Dickerson says 57-year-old James Dozier leased a house near Byhalia to Tommy and Benita Bonds, and Dozier confronted the couple with a gun about 10 p.m. Saturday. Dickerson says Dozier doused them with lighter fluid and set them on fire.
Both were taken to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee, and 42-year-old Benita Bonds was critical condition.
The sheriff says deputies arrested Dozier Sunday, and he is being held under $1 million bond on two charges of aggravated assault.
Dickerson says Monday that Dozier has not told investigators what prompted the attack. Dozier was appointed a public defender, but the attorney could not immediately be reached.
