The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate a Monday afternoon shooting that left two people injured in Lowndes County.
At about 3:45 p.m. Monday, authorities received a call from a woman going in and out of consciousness after suffering a gunshot wound near Nashville Ferry Road East and Sheffield Road, per scanner reports. The woman said she and another person had been shot by a relative and were in need of medical assistance. After emergency crews arrived at the scene, they were transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Capt. Ryan Rickert of LCSD said one of the victims has been released from the hospital. The other remains there in stable condition, he said.
Sammie Conner, 64, of Emerald Drive, when contacted at his home via telephone by The Dispatch on Tuesday, confirmed that he had been involved in the incident. He said the incident involved “several relatives” of his.
Conner said that after the shooting, he was brought to the sheriff’s department office and questioned. He was not arrested.
Conner’s red Chevrolet Silverado was ultimately confiscated, but released back to him Tuesday, he said.
He declined to go into detail about the incident.
Rickert said the incident will be presented to a grand jury in coming months. The grand jury will decide what, if any, charges will be pressed in the case.
Rickert said LCSD is not releasing further information at this time.
