ABERDEEN — A former Leflore County deputy sheriff is scheduled to plead guilty to federal drug trafficking charges.
The Greenwood Commonwealth reports that Mark Head’s change of plea hearing is April 9 in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.
Federal prosecutors say Head is charged with one count of attempted distribution of cocaine. Prosecutors allege Head was paid $1,500 to pick up about one kilogram of cocaine for a Leflore County drug dealer in Little Round Park last December.
As it turned out, the drug dealer was an FBI informant, the cocaine was fake and the man Head allegedly met in his Leflore County Sheriff’s Department patrol car to pick up the cocaine was an undercover FBI agent.
The federal charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
