The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit arrested 12 suspects recently as part of a year-long investigation into illegal drug activity in Columbus and Lowndes County.
Officers arrested the suspects on a total of 23 warrants between March 16 and April 2, for the sale or possession of illegal narcotics, according to a sheriff’s department press release. Controlled substances involved included marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and prescription medications oxycodone and hydrocodone.
All suspects were booked in Lowndes County Adult Detention Facility. Bonds for some suspects were set as high as $10,000 per count.
The press release said the investigation continues and more arrests are expected.
Suspects arrested include:
— Michael Brewer, 26, of Columbus, two counts of sale of a controlled substance and one count sale of marijuana;
— Selvin Richardson, 26, of Columbus, two counts sale of cocaine;
— Zachory Wood, 18, of Columbus, two counts sale of a controlled substance;
— Karen Wood, 52, of Columbus, one count possession of methamphetamine;
— James York, 40, of Columbus, two counts sale of a controlled substance;
— William Latham, 30, of Columbus, two counts sale of a controlled substance;
— Justin Hairston, 24, of Columbus, two counts sale of cocaine and one count sale of controlled substance;
— Malcolm Turner, 25, of Columbus, two counts sale of marijuana;
— Mitchell Bradford, 21, of Columbus, one count sale of marijuana and two counts sale of a controlled substance;
— Jameale Willis, 23, of Columbus, possession of marijuana more than one ounce with intent to distribute;
— Keyon Bankhead, 26, of Columbus, possession of marijuana more than one ounce with intent to distribute; and
— Joshua Chitwood, 31, of Columbus, one count possession of a controlled substance.
