The new multipurpose gymnasium in the Starkville Sportsplex building on Lynn Lane has a capacity of nearly 1,000 people.
Organizers of the Columbus and Starkville Tea Party groups expect crowds at a town hall meeting Saturday in the gymnasium to approach that capacity.
"I wouldn''t be surprised if it fills up," said Robert J. Allen, cofounder of the Starkville Tea Party and one of the event''s organizers. "Everywhere we go, everywhere we look, people are enthusiastic about this. They''re angry and scared about what''s happening to their country. They support efforts like this."
"The interest is so big and the concern is so big that I expect there to be a huge turnout in Starkville," Allen added.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to last until 11:30 a.m. Organizers expect contingents from Columbus, Tupelo and Jackson to attend.
The main speaker will be Fox News political analyst Angela McGlowan. Dr. Ken Ley, a surgical oncologist from Jackson, and other speakers also will speak to the public about legislation and issues concerning health care, religious freedom, immigration, voter fraud, excessive spending, national debt and other issues. The meeting also will give the public a chance to ask questions of the speakers.
Since Tea Parties began springing up around the country, Allen said he has witnessed firsthand people taking action who normally wouldn''t get involved in the political process. And that''s what he likes to see.
"The Tea Party is full of people that have never done anything political before," Allen said. "It is so bad out there right now that people who haven''t even been paying attention to politics are seeing it and they''re worried. People know we''re in trouble. It''s not just us. It''s our grandkids, it''s our loved-ones and it''s our country."
"We''re being transformed into a country that we don''t want and didn''t grew up in," he continued. "Our kids and our grandkids aren''t going to be able to grow up in the same country we grew up in if we let this continue."
The meeting is free to the public. The Sportsplex is located at 405 Lynn Lane, Starkville.

love this movement--great job! I hope this movement has a big influence on the 2010 elections. They need to listen up!

Please people, support the Tea Parties. Our government (both parties) is slowly destroying this country. Record debt, massive spending, amnesty for illegal aliens, unemployment, entitlements for those not deserving, etc. These are all issues that Americans have to speak out about. Also please do not vote for the incumbants next year, as these are the people (sometimes life-long politicians) who are driving this country to doom and bankruptcy. It is up to the people to let them know we are upset and won't stand for their nonsense any longer.

I would be all for this movement, but the article on this gathering in the Starkville Daily News ends with Allen disputing where President Obama was born. Now what does that have to do with anything? This makes me wonder if this group is sincere about the real problems in our country, or is this just another opportunity to bash President Obama

You are so right ntab! These hate mobs gathering with no direct agenda except to spread hate. Come up with some solutions instead of always trying to stir up mess! Remember, it was the people YOU ALL voted for in the first place, that got us all in this situation we are in now.

if you read this allen fellas web site, you can see he is nothing short of a traitor!!
TD commented at 12/16/2009 7:47:00 PM:
nitab and jks are very right to worry about the TEA party movement. They are worried that when TEA party candidates get elected they will cut off all the free handouts and get this great country back on the road to financial stability, limited government and individual responsibility.
TEA = Taxed Enough Already!

This Tea Party movement is so wrong. It has nothing to do with making our country a better place in which to live. It is a movement laced with hatred and injustice. I don't understand why this movement did not surface during the Bush years!!

Have any of you nay sayers been to a rally? If not--then you should come--they are average Americans..

If they were laced with hatred and injustice, then they would be at home. No need to push what you already have...

nitab, jks and Bettye Swift.. You speak like such typical liberals.. So fess up besides yourself who else in your family do I go to work day in and day out to support? Yes Obama is a pathedic excuse for a president but that has nothing to do with this matter.. I am tired of supporting usless, waste of oxygen, lazy human beings! If you dont work and own property you shouldnt be able to vote or have an opinion on what or where my money goes!!! ENVOKE ARTICLE 5!!!
TD commented at 12/17/2009 12:21:00 PM:
Bettye - The TEA party movement is a reaction to the Congress - passing massive and complicated legislation without reading it. Much of this legislation spends money we don't have. Most of this legislation limits personal responsibility. Much of the legislation expands the role of government. Much of the legislation protects the interest of special interest groups rather than individuals.
Bettye, I would like for you to expand your thoughts. Tell everyone what specific hatred and injustice things the TEA party advocates. Be very specific please.
nitab commented at 12/17/2009 2:18:00 PM:
David--I promise you, you don't support anyone in my household. I just noticed when I read the article concerning this TEA Party gathering in SDN that Allen seemed more concerned with where President Obama was born instead of addressing the problems at hand. Now, if his proving where President Obama was born is going to fix Americans' concerns then so be it, meet on!!
david hunt commented at 12/17/2009 2:53:00 PM:
nitab.. Thats great news.. So it has to make you fume to see the lazy government pets at the grocery store eating better than your own family on our dime using there EBT cards? If not then you obviosly dont pay enough taxes.. I have to agree with you that at this point it doesnt really matter where Obama was born because the idiots have already voted the Joker in! Now with that being said there is the problem! It should have been discovered long before hes was ever voted in.

All God fearing, hard working, tax paying, real authentic / patriotic Americans better wake up NOW! The current administration is trying their best to take this once great country down the road to ruin & if they are not stopped it will happen. I believe to the very foundation of my soul that Barack Hussein Obama & his Chicago style henchmen / hoodlums are socialists that want to rip the very heart, head, & soul out this country & destroy anyone that does not support them. Everything they stand for is totally against the freedoms that our forefathers provided us. Why overhaul healthcare for all when supposedly just a small % of population does not want or have it? They can fix it for them but leave the rest of us alone! If it's such a great thing then why is it necessary to meet in secret, late at night, and make all sorts of sweetheart deals to buy congressional & senatorial votes?????
Our representatives are NOT representing us; they are working directly for Hussein.
Legalizing 30 MM or however many illegal's and giving OUR tax dollars to them for FREE guarantees them that many more votes, Now they want to give away $100 Billions to the poor third world countries for what? Next will be cap & trade, then guns, then another high dollar give away w/ money we don't have & can't afford. It's all about money, power, and worldwide domination!
Political correctness, "bowing" to the muslims, forced diversity, government handouts, & government control must STOP.
If you won't / can't: obey our rules, work, pay taxes, stay out of trouble, speak English, salute out flag, & respect our laws then you are free to go to another country like NOW! I'll help you to get out!
If you refuse to stand out against this then start practicing your barnyard animal sounds cause you will become another pathetic stupid pack animal just blindly following the herd!
How can so many people not see this??????
Let's put Christ back in Christmas and Christ & God back in our lives!
