Lowndes man facing cyberstalking charge remains in jail

A Steens man injured in what police are calling a "justified" shooting remains in jail after a Dec. 12 incident.

Michael Raymond Parker, 34, of 380 Honeysuckle Drive in Steens, was arrested Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle on charges of cyberstalking, e-mail communication to extort or threaten harm.

Parker remains in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.

Lawrence Hodgson, the man who shot Parker, is out on bond.

According to Cpl. Eli Perrigin, a detective with the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, Parker was taken to the hospital for treatment after he was shot sometime after 2 a.m. on Dec. 12.

"He was shot in the lower body area. He was treated and released, then we arrested him on a cyberstalking charge," Perrigin said.

Perrigin added Parker has an additional charge of violation of a restraining order.

Though authorities say Hodgson, 36, of 302 Martinwood Road in Eden, N.C., was justified in the shooting, he was arrested for possession of a weapon by a felon. Hodgson's prior felony conviction, the details of which were unknown by press time, stems from an incident in North Carolina.

Hodgson was arrested Dec. 12 at 2:40 a.m. at 380 Honeysuckle Drive. Authorities declined to comment on the nature of the incident, since the investigation is ongoing.

Perrigin said no motive has been determined in the shooting.

"Parker violated a restraining order. He was on property he was not supposed to be on, and he was shot," he said.

According to Pat Tuggle of the records division at LCSO, both Parker and Hodgson made an initial appearance in Lowndes County Justice Court on Wednesday. Hodgson was released on a $2,500 bond, while Parker remains in custody.

"On the violation of the restraining order, Parker was ordered to serve six months; no bond was set on that. A $5,000 bond has been set on the cyberstalking charge," Tuggle said.

"There are some things still to check out," said Perrigin. "When we finish, we will present our findings to the Lowndes County grand jury."

first i've heard of this story from the dispatch, if you want the story read the packet. so perrigen says they don't know a motive for the shooting, maybe its because he broke into the house with the intention to harm the occupants, i say it serves him right, they need to send the other guy to the firing range for practice. if you kick my door in i'm not going to aim for the leg! typical dispatch story (or lack thereof)

I would like to bring an important fact into light for EVERYONE. He has over one million dollars in life insurance left to HIS WIFE. Sounds like a set up once you look at it from that point of view.

Yours Truely,

Well from what I hear the gun was a state issued weapon issued by the State of Mississippi to a local state trooper. I believe that adds to the conspiracy of the life insurance mentioned above.

If he was shot with a state issued weapon where is the attorney generals office in all of this? And how is a known felon out on bond while being caught in possesion of a fire arm? They put people under the jail for acts such as that in other states. What is wrong with the mississippi justice system?

the guy who shot him is a Felon had no right to be with a gun or in the house. The man that was shot owns the house, the man that shot him is the wife's boyfriend. So what does that say about her.She just wanted her husband out of the way so she can have everything.

All Columbus can do is talk about people. If you dont know the whole story then you need to keep your mouth shut!!! This is between a wife and husband not everyone who thinks they know everything!!!!!

Well you people don't know the truth. You just assume things. The wife was not the one having the affair it was the husband. The reason there was a restraining order is cause she was leaving him because he was having an affair with a married woman with two children himself so if you don't know then keep your mouth shut!

I HOPE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU WHO ARE SLANDERING MY FAMILY MEMBER REALIZE THAT THIS CAN CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT LIFE. WENDY IS A CONTROLLING WOMAN AND WAS WAY OUT OF LINE TO DO THE THINGS SHE DID AND THE WAY SHE DID THEM. HE WAS NOT SLEEPING WITH ANYONE BUT THAT ONE WOMAN AND HE WAS PREPARED TO ADMIT IT TO WENDY BUT SHE FOUND OUT BEFORE HE COULD GET HER TO TAKE TIME WITH HIM. I HAPPEN TO HAVE KNOWN EVERYTHING BEFORE THIS ALL HIT THE FAN. MICHAEL AND I HAVE HAD A GOOD RELATIONSHIP DESPITE WENDY'S EFFORTS TO KEEP HIM FROM HIS FAMILY. AND MICHAEL DOES NOT HAVE 2 CHILDREN HE HAS THREE AND FOR YOUR FAMILY WENDY THEY NEED TO START RECOGNIZING THAT. HE GAVE HER A BETTER LIFE AND SHE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF EVERYTHING SHE COULD TO TAKE IT ALL FROM HIM. BUT SHE WILL LEARN IN THE END SHE MESSED UP THE BEST THING SHE EVER HAD WHEN SHE CAME BETWEEN HIM AND HIS FAMILY.

I happen to know the Parker's. His wife was with her boyfriend and that was taking place IN HIS HOME! If my spouse was in MY home i had worked for so many years to build and was commiting adulterous acts with MY CHILDREN present, i do believe that i would go a tad bit insane. Before you can judge or say someone needed to be shot for entering their own home they pay for i do believe you need to learn the entire story instead of reading and agreeing with a KNOWN felon.
