The Hyatt Place in Columbus will host Gallery Night to benefit Columbus and Lowndes County schools from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Visitors can enjoy art work from students at local schools and bid on their favorites during the silent art auction. Visitors can also win prizes, including a grand prize drawing of a Hyatt Grand Bed, according to director of sales Tess Mason.
The event is a way for Hyatt Place to promote the arts and support schools in Columbus and Lowndes County, Mason said. Mason moved to Columbus about a year ago and immediately heard two things: that the schools were in need of support and that the students were artistically talented.
“I heard fabulous things about the art department (and) the art students,” said Mason.
Hyatt Place gave each school Hobby Lobby gift cards so that the schools could purchase art supplies and participate in Gallery Night. Participating students at the schools were to create art inspired either by a family vacation or by Columbus, past or present, according to sales manager Tressa Black. After students completed their projects, each school submitted two or three pieces of artwork by students to display on Gallery Night, according to Mason.
About 30 students have submitted paintings, drawings and other kinds of art, according to Black.
Several local vendors will participate in the event, including Pepper’s, Belks and Reed’s, Mason said.
