Terry Brown continues to be remembered and recognized by the Legislature.
Gov. Phil Bryant signed a bill Tuesday naming the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway bridge after Brown, the late state senator from Columbus.
Senate Bill 2087 was signed into law by Bryant in the state capitol. Sen. Chuck Younger (R-Columbus) said a more formal ceremony will take place in July. Younger was the leader of a large group of state senators who authored the bill.
The bridge going over the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway on Highway 82 in Lowndes County will henceforth be known as the “Terry W. Brown Memorial Bridge.” The state Department of Transportation will create and dedicate signs formally recognizing the new title by July 1, when the law is scheduled to go into effect.
“Terry Brown did a lot for Lowndes County,” Younger said. “A lot of people don’t realize what all goes on beyond the scenes in being a state senator. He and his family sacrificed a lot.”
