Columbus police, as of press time today, were seeking a suspect in a shooting that occurred Wednesday near a convenience store.
Authorities responded to the incident at the intersection of Forrest Boulevard and McCrary Road North at approximately 1:45 p.m.
Authorities this morning declined to release the victim’s name. At the scene, however, the victim identified himself to a Dispatch reporter as Damian Cureton, 20. He was treated for a gunshot wound to the elbow in the parking lot of Quick and Easy Deli on McCrary Road North by paramedics, but refused to be treated at the hospital.
Cureton was walking on Forrest Boulevard toward McCrary Road North when he was shot, according to CPD Capt. Brent Swan. Cureton knew the suspect, and they had a verbal altercation moments before the shooting, Swan said.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s name.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department’s canine division assisted with the investigation.
Sonya Miller, a woman who claims to know the victim, was at the scene Wednesday, said Cureton was on his way to Quick and Easy Deli when “someone came up behind him” and began shooting at him.
