The Mississippi-Alabama Rural Tourism Conference is coming to town.
Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Nancy Carpenter on Monday announced the conference, which will be held Oct. 24-26, 2016, at the Courtyard Marriott. This marks the second time Columbus has landed the collaborative tourism event, Carpenter said, the first coming in 2008.
The event will draw tourism professionals from all over Mississippi and Alabama, Carpenter said, and present ways for them to better market their community.
Though presenters haven’t been finalized, Carpenter said they typically range from small restaurant owners and downtown developers to sporting event managers.
“I have attended these for years,” Carpenter said. “I always bring back great information to help us market our city. I’m excited that we’re getting to host the 2016 event.”
Carpenter said the three-day conference would also feature entertainment opportunities for attendees, including a guided tour of Columbus attractions, a “dine around” featuring local restaurants and a night of Blues, food and beverages at the newly restored pedestrian bridge.
