Southern Ionics Incorporated (SII), a West Point based inorganic chemical manufacturer, mining company, and terminal operator, has purchased CF Industries Holdings, Inc.’s indirect ownership interest in Houston Ammonia Terminal, L.P. (HAT), effective June 5. Located in Pasadena, Texas, HAT provides ammonia storage services and supplies upgraded ammonia products to local and regional US Gulf Coast markets. This is a strategic acquisition that will secure Southern Ionics’ Aqua Ammonia business interests, as well as provide SII additional service revenue.
SII has marketed ammonia derivative products from HAT for over 13 years, with anticipated future growth. SII will be the terminal operator, adding 11 employees to SII’s workforce. The other 50% partner in HAT is Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (PCS), one of the world’s largest fertilizer companies. PCS serves anhydrous ammonia direct to large volume customers through the HAT terminal.
