Architects renovating the John Clayton Fant Memorial Library on Mississippi University for Women’s campus have begun Phase III of the renovations.
Phase III includes electrical upgrades and the installation of a heating and cooling system, as well as finishing work on the library’s first floor and working on the existing interior, according to a MUW media release.
The project’s architect is Burris/Wagnon Architects, P.A. out of Jackson.
The architects are finalizing specs to use for the Automated Storage and Retrieval System, a computer system that will store less frequently sought after materials and retrieve those materials when patrons request them online, according to Nora Miller, chief financial officer and senior vice president for administration at MUW.
The architects are also in the process of identifying security gates to use in conjunction with a new book tracking system called the Radio Frequency Identification System.
Miller said the architects will present an updated furniture scheme for the library which faculty and staff members will be able to test.
The renovations are estimated to cost $18 million and be finished spring 2017.
