The Columbus Municipal School District Board of Trustees on Friday hired a new business manager to oversee the district’s funds and also chose the contractor that will handle one of its athletic construction projects.
During a specially called meeting, the board voted unanimously to hire Tammie Holmes as CMSD’s new business manager. Holmes has spent the last two years in the same position with the Noxubee County School District. She will replace Tammie McGarr, who is taking the same position with the Starkville School District.
Holmes has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a MBA from Mississippi State University. She will earn $86,100 a year.
The board on Friday also heard from engineer Kevin Stafford, vice president of Neel-Schaffer, who presented bids for the construction of a soccer field at Columbus High School. Stafford recommended the board accept the lowest bid, which came from Columbus-based Weathers Construction at $236,204.
The board unanimously approved Weathers for the contract.
The board also was told Friday that Velma Woodard will begin serving as the board’s new clerk beginning next week. Woodard, the mother of Columbus High School student and basketball player, Robert Woodard, has been serving as the high school’s secretary.
In her new role, Velma Woodard will earn $38,928 a year.
