Caledonia residents and non-residents alike looking to learn about their local government and town can now do so from the comfort of their homes.
The town’s new website — caledoniams.org — launched Friday. It gives citizens an opportunity to contact their elected and appointed officials, in addition to providing public event and meeting notifications.
Alderman Mitch Wiggins, who has been working to make the website a reality for more than a year, said there are still improvements to be made.
“It’s just in the infant stages,” Wiggins said. “We’re looking forward to getting feedback from the public.”
The site includes a message from Mayor Bill Lawrence, contact information for the town’s alderman, marshal, parks and water departments, and information on Caledonia Days.
The website’s calendar is presently bare, but Wiggins said he will be filling out the site with more information.
“This is not the end of it, it’s just the beginning,” Wiggins said.
Community Center opens
The new Caledonia Community Center opened its doors last week, too.
Located on the corner of Cedar and South streets, the center has room for 200 people, according to Wiggins. The old community center only had room for about 30.
Caledonia has a 25-year lease on the property, which will also serve as the new Caledonia voting precinct.
