A Monroe County man is dead following a lawn mower accident Tuesday.
Paul Wayne Puckett, 77, of the Sipsey Fork community, was found in a pond on his property. Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley ruled the cause of death to be drowning.
Gurley said that shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, someone driving along Sipsey Fork Road noticed a mower overturned in a pond beside Puckett’s home. The motorist and another person went to check on the situation. They discovered Puckett beneath the mower in the pond, according to Gurley.
Puckett had a Wizard brand mower and had attached a small tank behind the seat and used it to spray chemicals. Gurley said he was apparently spraying weeds near the pond when he overturned into the water.
Puckett was pronounced dead about 8 p.m.
Puckett was the owner of B&P Hardware in Sulligent, Alabama, according to Gurley.
