Divers with Columbus Fire & Rescue pulled a body from the Tombigbee River near the John C. Stennis Lock & Dam area this weekend.
William Darnell, 60, of Columbus, was found in the water off Old Waverly Road about 5 p.m. Sunday, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Merchant said the autopsy has yet to be completed. Darnell, the coroner said, could have died as early as last Thursday. He said Darnell did have prior medical issues but could not recall specifics.
Darnell was reported missing by his family last Saturday, according to Ryan Rickert, a detective with the Lowndes County Sheriff Department. LCSD is investigating the death. Rickart said foul play is not suspected at this point.
Once LCSD narrowed its search to the Stennis Lock and Dam area, CFR sent rescue divers.
