Two West Point men died from separate motorcycle accidents Saturday in Clay County.
Both deaths occurred on stretches of Highway 45 Alternate, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop G,
Elvis Strictland, 56, died Saturday morning when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up hauling a trailer. Strickland crashed as he was merging southbound onto the highway just south of Tibbee Bridge. The motorcycle was pinned between the truck and the trailer after the collision. Strictland was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the truck, Emmanuel Moore, 46, of West Point was uninjured, according to MHP.
At approximately 11:25 p.m. Saturday, MHP responded to another fatal crash involving a motorcycle.
Carlos Walker, 39, died after his motorcycle was struck from behind by a van driven by James Smith, 28, of New Albany. The accident occurred on Highway 45 Alternate just north of West Point near the Oasis Club. Walker was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center where he died of his injuries. Smith was uninjured.
Both accidents remain under investigation by MHP.
