JACKSON — Blues musician Eddie “Son” House will be honored with a Mississippi Blues Trail marker in Rochester, New York.
The dedication is Friday at the corner of Grieg and Clarissa Streets. It is Mississippi’s 14th Blues Trail Marker outside the state.
House, considered one of the most influential of the early Delta bluesmen, was born near Clarksdale and became a preacher before he took up the blues.
During the 1920s and 1930s, the Paramount Records label recorded many pioneering artists from Mississippi, including House, Charley Patton, Tommy Johnson, Skip James, the Mississippi Sheiks and others.
House was earlier honored with a Mississippi Blues Trail marker on Old Highway 61 in Robinsonville in Tunica County.
He was inducted in the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980. He died in 1988 in Detroit.
