A joint effort between Starkville Police and Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s departments captured an escaped prisoner and returned him to the Clay County Jail on Thursday morning.
SPD was alerted that Depriest Gray, 29, escaped from the Clay County Jail Wednesday night, according to a department news release.
Law enforcement officers located Gray on South Montgomery Street Thursday morning and arrested him a coordinated effort from SPD and OCSD. Officers took Gray back to the Clay County jail, where he will await additional charges.
SPD previously arrested Gray on June 19, 2014, for a robbery and kidnapping incident that occurred the previous day on Old West Point Road. Gray was later convicted, according to the release.
In an unrelated matter, SPD arrested 34-year-old Demaria Laphel Brown on suspicion of sexual battery of a juvenile.

SPD arrested 25-year-old Dominiuque Beasley, also known as Dominique Roberts, on suspicion of possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
