Editor’s Note: A Lowndes County grand jury returned a no-bill for Joshua Wayne Jourdan’s charges on Jan. 11, 2016. A no-bill indicates the grand jury did not find sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
A Columbus man has been charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly shot at someone checking on him after a car accident.
Columbus police officers responded to a call on 31st Avenue about 8 p.m. Sunday. A man at the scene told officers he had been checking on the occupants of a wrecked car when one of the occupants shot at him. The bullet, police say, passed through his shirt without hitting him.
The driver and the passenger in the vehicle got into a physical altercation which caused the accident, authorities say.
Police identified the suspect and driver as Joshua Wayne Jourdan, 29, of 600 Northdale Drive and arrested him when they spotted him walking down 31st Avenue. Police say Jourdan had a handgun in his possession at the time.
The other passenger was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with minor injuries, according to a CPD media release.
All three men knew each other, the police said.
The incident is still under investigation.
