A Macon man is dead after a street fight ended in a stabbing.
Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree said the fight, between Dennis Gavin and Johnny Slaughter, happed at about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Martin Luther King Drive in Macon near Talk of the Town nightclub.
Grassaree said Slaughter fatally stabbed Gavin. Slaughter sustained an eye injury and the sheriff said he was taken to a Jackson hospital, then returned to the Noxubee County Jail.
Grassaree added that Slaughter works in Macon’s Electric Department.
“We don’t know the reason they got into it,” Grassaree said. “Mr. Gavin ended up being stabbed to death. Slaughter went to the hospital in Jackson with damage to his eye. We don’t know what he got hit with.”
It is unclear what charges Slaughter may face. Grassaree told The Dispatch his department was working on charges against Slaughter on Tuesday afternoon.
