A 19-year-old Columbus man is behind bars after police say he broke into eight cars Sunday.
John Williams Jr., 19, of 801 Lehmberg Road, was arrested Sunday and charged with two counts of auto burglary, according to a media release from Capt. Fred Shelton with the Columbus Police Department.
Shelton said the case began when officers responded to a call of several cars being burglarized near the 800 block of Danna Drive in east Columbus early Sunday. A citizen that saw the suspect told officers Williams got into a car near the scene and fled, according to CPD.
Officers caught Williams a short time later. Some of the stolen property in the car was recovered and returned to its owners, according to Shelton.
Williams was denied bond, Shelton said, because he was already facing other burglary charges at the time of his arrest. He remains in custody.
