Clay County Sheriff”s Department deputies have arrested one man and continue searching for at least three more in connection with a dog-fighting operation discovered Sunday night.
According to reports, officers were notified late Sunday evening of a possible dog-fighting ring near Jack Dill Road, located approximately five miles east of Old Waverly Road.
After arriving at the scene, deputies discovered four men in connection with the dog-fighting ring, which led to the apprehension of Fredrick Jamal Robinson, 23, of 214 Railroad Road.
Three others who were with Robinson fled on foot, evading arrest.
“Dog fighting is a bad problem in any county, we are no exception,” said Chief Deputy Eddie Scott, who noted dog fighting is a felony. Dog fighting carries a maximum penalty of one to three years in jail, if participating and one year in jail if watching.
“We are looking for anyone who has information regarding this crime,” Scott said.
After Robinson was arrested, Scott said deputies seized three vehicles and three dogs, all pit bulls, in conjunction with the fighting.
Anyone with information about the crime are asked to contact the Clay County Sheriff”s Department at 662-494-5152 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
