Mississippi State is expected to approve a policy change this month that prevents the use of hoverboards inside all campus buildings.
Citing safety concerns, the university’s executive council will meet Jan. 25 to consider the measure. Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt says if approved the popular, self-balancing motorized boards would be added to a list of other prohibited wheeled items inside campus buildings, including bicycles and skateboards.
That proposed change is separate from a current prohibition of the popular self-balancing, motorized boards inside residence halls. Hyatt said Friday numerous reports link the boards to fires and they’re looking to take preventative action to make certain the campus community is safe.
If approved, MSU would join several other universities banning the machines, including LSU and the University of Alabama.
