An armed robbery occurred Monday night at a Columbus convenience store and at press time today authorities continued to search for a suspect.
Officers with the Columbus Police Department responded to the robbery at the B-Quik on 31st Avenue North after a clerk set off a panic alarm at 7:39 p.m. and called 911 at 7:40 a.m., according to Fred Shelton, interim CPD chief of police. The clerk told officers a man in a mask had robbed the store of some cash and fled the scene on foot, running behind the building.
The clerk was shaken but unharmed, according to Shelton.
No one else was in the store during the robbery, authorities said.
The suspect was described as being about five foot, five inches tall and dressed all in black. A Tweet from CPD later said the suspect was carrying a shotgun and a paper bag. Police are also looking for a tan vehicle that he may have escaped in.
K-9 officers assisted CPD in tracking the suspect.
CPD has footage of the incident from security cameras, Shelton said.
