Zachary’s will begin serving breakfast next month.
Specifically, the downtown Columbus eatery will be serving specialty biscuits. Like: Cinnamon raisin biscuits. Cookies and cream biscuits. Cajun crawfish biscuits. Blueberries and cream biscuits. And others.
Doug Pellum, the restaurant’s manager, told The Dispatch this week they feel there is a market downtown for a breakfast place. The restaurant will focus its breakfast entirely on biscuits, too. No eggs, no pancakes, no grits. Specialty biscuits are a trend in the culinary world, according to Pellum.
Beginning Feb. 2, the restaurant will offer its biscuits — for dine-in or carry-out — starting at 6 a.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Breakfast will close at 10 a.m. The lunch menu will open at 11 a.m.
Zachary’s, located at 205 N. Fifth St., opened in 2001. It employs about 16 people.
Moving on.
Three Pizza Huts have closed in the Golden Triangle in the last month.
The two dine-in locations in Columbus closed earlier this week. About three weeks ago, the Pizza Hut in West Point, located on Highway 45 Alternate North, closed, too.
A representative with the company that owned the restaurants told The Dispatch earlier this week “overlap in the trade area” was the reason behind the closures.
Realty Income Inc., a California-based company, owns the buildings and lots that housed the shuttered eateries. The company is now looking to put businesses into the three buildings.
“They would prefer to lease, though strong sales offers would also be considered,” Royce Hudspeth, the listing agent for the properties, said.
The properties are:
■ 2215 Hwy. 45 N. in Columbus, a 2,615 square feet structure. It sits on a half-acre lot.
■ 522 Alabama St. in Columbus, a 2,324 square feet structure. It sits on a half-acre lot.
■ 800 Hwy. 45 Alt. N. in West Point, a 2,375 square feet structure. It also sits on about a half-acre lot.
Lastly, over in Starkville, the newly renovated Kroger on Highway 12 West formally opened Wednesday morning.
Prior to the renovation, the grocery store covered 51,248 square feet, according to Teresa Dickerson, a community affairs and public relations manager with Kroger. It covers 98,186 square feet now. (For comparison, the Kroger in Columbus covers 40,573 square feet.) There are 31 aisles and 11 check-out lanes at the Starkville location.
The store is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
There is a Starbucks inside the Kroger, too. Its hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
Kroger employs more than 300 people in Starkville.
