Last fall we reported that Cook Out is planning to open a Golden Triangle location. A handful of people have asked for an update.
Here’s what we found out: The plans are still in place. The eatery posted an online job advertisement two weeks ago — it’s at jobnewsusa.com — stating it is looking to hire a manager for its upcoming Starkville location, which will be at the defunct Arby’s at 122 Hwy. 12.
“Cook Out is experiencing record growth opening 20-30 stores each year,” the job ad states. “We currently have over 170 locations in 8 states.”
There are currently no Cook Outs in Mississippi.
The Dispatch reached out to the chain this week to see when the Starkville location might open. A representative with the eatery said that has not yet been determined. However, two other Mississippi locations — one in Hattiesburg, one in Oxford — are slated to open in April.
Cook Outs employ 30 to 40 people at each location, according to the company.
Cook Out is a chain eatery that began in North Carolina in 1989 specializing in grilled hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, barbecue and 40 flavors of milkshakes. It is based in the Southeast.
Staying in Starkville, The Claiborne at Adelaide, a retirement community, opened last month.
It is located at 1980 S. Montgomery St., adjacent to the Starkville Country Club. The community consists of 82 total units. It is now accepting residents. For more information call 662-268-9555.
A representative with the company told The Dispatch the Starkville location would employ about 30 people in December and more would be added this year.
Lastly, here are some interesting Columbus statistics:
■ There are 1,971 businesses in the city.
■ Of those, 64 are food stores.
■ 39 are furniture and home furnishings stores.
■ 123 are eating and drinking places.
■ 12 are home improvement stores.
■ 88 are construction-centered.
■ 36 are in the transportation market.
These numbers came from a report The Dispatch requested from the Golden Triangle Development LINK.
