Kenneth Macon, the “person of interest” in the attack of a Columbus couple Monday, and suspected in an armed robbery last week, has had his share of run-ins with the law.
In August, 2000, he was charged with two counts of burglary and larceny of a dwelling, but it was retired to the files based on a guilty charge in another case, according to circuit court documents.
Records indicate Macon, 28, had been charged with possession of stolen property and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was sentenced to serve five years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with five years suspended and five years probation.
He also was ordered to pay court costs and fines totaling $1,105, starting at $50 a month on Oct. 15, 2000. He was also scheduled to submit to drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs.
In 2006, he was charged with possession of cocaine, and records show his post-release program was modified, and he would have to attend and complete time at a retribution center.
He was later charged in March 2007 with possession of cocaine greater than 1 ounce and less than 2 grams, and pleaded guilty to the charge. He was sentenced to serve one year house arrest and four years of probation, and was ordered to pay $1,000 in costs and fines beginning April 15 that year.
The Columbus Police Department describes Macon as 5 feet 9 inches tall and 158 pounds. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck with the word “Rose,” according to Terrie Songer, CPD public information officer.
According to Tara Booth, a spokesperson with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Macon has been housed at the Walnut Grove Transitional Center in the Walnut Grove community in the southern part of Leake County since last November. Macon was being held on charges of violation of probation and possession of cocaine.
Macon was granted a 48-hour pass and when he did not return, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest.
Wilcher said probationers can get a 48-hour pass every 30 days as long as they have someone who can provide transportation to bring them back.
Macon, who is suspected in the Monday stabbing and assault with a hammer of an elderly couple at 903 11th Ave. S., is considered armed and dangerous.
Macon also is suspected in a Feb. 4 armed robbery at 613 16th Ave. S. The victim found Macon inside her home. Macon tried to attack the victim with a knife and got away with her purse with money and contents.
Macon had on a GPS ankle bracelet from MDOC but cut it off.
Anyone with information in reference to this incident or the whereabouts of Macon should call investigator Terry Dentry at 662-364-1658 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
