“God bless America,” Angela McGlowan Thursday called to roughly a dozen supporters from the steps of the Lowndes County Courthouse.
A former Fox News analyst, Republican McGlowan announced her candidacy for the 1st District Congressional seat, currently held by Democrat Travis Childers, who is serving his first full term.
McGlowan, who was born in Oxford and earned a bachelor”s degree in public administration with a concentration in criminal justice and political science from The University of Mississippi, identified herself as “a conservative, pro-life, pro-gun and pro-small business.”
“Just like you I”m fed up, but I will never give up,” she told the group of her reason for seeking the office, noting “entrenched politicians” who “raised taxes,” and committed other sins against their constituents.
“I”m fed up with the liberal policies of politicians in Washington, D.C.,” she said. “It is clear Washington, D.C. and Jackson, Miss. have ignored us and it is time to take our country back.
“Washington, D.C. is trying to make health care available to people that don”t even belong in this country,” she continued, referring to illegal immigrants. “Washington has ignored our cry and passed economic policies that have led to … national debt and the highest unemployment rate in 26 years. That”s why this Mississippi girl is home to fight for you, like no one has ever fought for you.”
According to Fox News, McGlowan joined Fox News Channel in 1999 as a contributor covering political, special interest groups and lobbies, after serving as a manager of legislative affairs and policy research enhancement at the American Trucking Association.
She also is the founder and CEO of Political Strategies and Insights, a government affairs, political strategy, public relations and advocacy consulting firm in Washington, D.C.
From 1999 to 2005, while serving as director of government affairs and diversity development for Rupert Murdoch”s News Corp., she also was “a lobbyist and advocate within News Corporation to Congress for federal, legislative and regulatory policies supportive of corporate objectives,” according to her biography at FoxNews.com.
“I am fueled by disdain for the politicians, the powerful, who break their promise to us,” she said. “Washington, D.C. is about to have a rude awakening. They”ve underestimated us for the last time.
“Let me uphold your reputation,” she added. “Let me stand on your soldiers. No more smoke and mirrors, because we”re about to shine a light.”
Since passage of the stimulus bill, “jobs have been lost,” McGlowan noted.
“It”s time for it to stop,” she exclaimed, before adding, “We have a member of Congress who is bringing San Francisco values down to Mississippi. I”m telling you, it”s going to stop.”
She also noted, “economic development and education go hand-in-hand.”
And promised, “I won”t cut your education. I”ll bring money down here to increase funding for education.”
McGlowan also promised to “preserve the sanctity of marriage, because God did not create Adam and Steve; he created Adam and Eve.”
Lastly, she emphasized her “pro-gun” convictions and explained she was in Washington, D.C. when the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks occurred.
“We need to be concerned about our homeland,” she added. “I”d rather have them fight over there, than over here.”
