Starkville Fitness Kickboxing opened last month.
What it offers is a full-body, high-intensity, fast-paced workout via kickboxing techniques in a group setting. Each class lasts about one hour. It is a popular approach to getting fit — some Victoria Secret models do it, First Lady Michelle Obama is a fan — that includes cardio-vascular, resistance training and plyometric exercises.
Jamie Houston owns Starkville Fitness Kickboxing. It opened Jan. 4. Since then, about 200 people have joined the gym. There are men. But the exercise routine has proven most popular with women, according to Houston. Each person works against his or her own 200-pound Muay Thai bag. The business offers classes six times a day — 6 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Houston offers one free week to new members. He asks that new clients come in 15 minutes prior to a class to get signed up, get your hands wrapped and get your guest gloves.
Starkville Fitness Kickboxing — it is located 909B Lynn Lane — has five instructors, three of which are professional MMA fighters.

Moving on.
The U.S. Postal Service formally opened its eighth Village Post Office in Mississippi today, and it is near Columbus.
The facility is located in 82 Country. The address: 5855 Hwy. 182 East. It is open 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday.
USPS began the Village Post Office concept in 2011. The first one opened in Malone, Washington, in August of that year. The goal is provide postal service in the country’s more rural areas.
Village Post Offices are typically located in libraries and convenience stores and operated by the local business management.
Doug Kyle, spokesperson for USPS Mississippi District, said most Village Post Offices integrate the postal operation into the business and staffing already in place. Kyle said the new operation “will help us better meet the mailing and shipping needs of our customers in that area of Columbus and Lowndes County.”
