Starkville aldermen and Mayor Parker Wiseman on Tuesday honored Mississippi State University’s women’s basketball team for its success on the court this season by dedicating this weekend in honor of the team.
Wiseman delivered a proclamation declaring March 18-20 as “Mississippi State University Women’s Basketball Team Weekend” as the university hosts its first NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship on Friday and Sunday.
“It’s an honor because the community has really embraced our team,” head coach Vic Schaefer said of the proclamation in a release.
MSU concluded the regular season with a 26-7 overall record and posted an 11-5 record in Southeastern Conference play.
Fan turnout this year was reflective of the team’s success, as more than 80,000 fans attended games.
The No. 5 seed Bulldogs play Chattanooga at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Humphrey Coliseum.
