Two Columbus residents indicted on separate charges are scheduled to have their cases heard during the May term of Lowndes County Circuit Court.
According to information provided by the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center, and Lowndes County Circuit Court, Austin Allen Wheat, 17, of 1152 Black Creek Road in Columbus, was arrested Feb. 10 on charges of driving under the influence-maiming and felony leaving the scene of an accident.
According to the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office and Brian Mobley, public affairs officer with Troop G of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, charges stem from an incident in which Wheat allegedly struck a pedestrian, identified as Larry Shirley, along Highway 12.
“We have turned over our findings in the investigation over to the Lowndes County District Attorney”s office,” Mobley said.
A spokeswoman with the Adult Detention Center said Wheat has been released on a $25,000 bond, and his case has been turned over to the Lowndes County Grand Jury.
It is scheduled to be heard during the May term of Circuit Court, according to a Circuit Court spokeswoman.
William Macklin Black Jr., 41, of 2267 Phillips Hill Road in Columbus, has been indicted on a charge of fondling. He was arrested Feb. 10 by the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Department.
According to the Adult Detention Center spokeswoman, Black has been released on a $25,000 bond, and his case has been turned over to the Grand Jury, and is also scheduled to be heard during the May term of Circuit Court.
Other arrests include:
- Tommie C. Harris, 29, of 2306 North Haven Woods, No. 1 in Columbus, was arrested Feb. 8 by LCSO on charges of molesting-touching a child for lustful purposes and rape.
- Kirby Lann Taylor, 55, of 217 19th St. S. in Columbus, was arrested Feb. 9 by LCSO on a charge of driving under the influence-maiming.
- William Joseph Battle, 32, of 104 Poplar St. in Columbus, was arrested Feb. 10 by LCSO on a charge of possession or sale of precursors.
